Dignity
(noun)
the state or quality of being worthy of honour or respect.

Fifty people who experienced homelessness during 2018 and who stayed with the charity “Dignity” share some of their journey. These stories are coupled with black and white photos of hands, each as unique as the stories that accompany them. Often a series of circumstances can lead to homelessness. A combination of health issues, particularly poor mental health, job loss, family breakdown and low financial resources are things that can happen to anyone.. Drugs and alcohol abuse are also a factor in some cases, but this is usually not the primary issue. The reality of homelessness among women, especially older women,  is often coupled with the experience of violence or rejection. These are real stories, told by real people living in our community.

All profits from the sale of this book go directly to Dignity, supporting people experiencing homelessness in Australia.

Inspiring and Motivating!

Hands of Homelessness is not only a most inspiring journal of the capacity of human beings to manage difficulties. It is also a deeply reflective wake up call that anyone anytime could run out of luck and end up losing everything. The photography shines as the pictures facilitate our understanding of each individual story or quote. Well done Dignity!
